New Book Exposes 'Sacred Cow Theology'
Longwood, FL (PRWEB) January 20, 2008 -- Author Joy Calkins takes readers on a journey in I'm Killing My Sacred Cows: A Personal Journey Against Spiritual Abuse (paperback, 978-1-60477-473-3). In her words, sacred cows are "teachings that slander the character of God." She says her book "exposes slanderous theology forced upon the weak and feeble," and she hopes readers who have been bound by such theology will be set free.
The author has had many battlefield experiences regarding sacred cow theology and its faith-destroying message. While suffering the effects of disease, she sensed that much of the theology of suffering she had been taught was wrong. "God sounded more like a mafia godfather than a loving Father" when people explained to her God's role in her life circumstances. But she says she has been healed of many diseases during her journey. She writes in celebration of the victories while hoping and believing God for freedom from a wheelchair.
According to the author, her humorous and provocative book is "destined to be a best-seller bringing hope and healing to those in need and changing the way the church ministers to the sick and diseased."
Joy Calkins and her husband, Lance, have five children.
