International Call To Save A Sacred Site In Tahiti , Join The Rohotu Association

Tahiti (PRWEB) October 9, 2007 -- The Rohutu Association, a group that protects all cultural and spiritual sites in Tahiti and its islands announced the establishment of a petition (http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/laissons_les_mes_senvoler_en_paix_de_tataa) to save a sacred site top location in Tahiti. A traditional site referred as 'Tataa' and know by locals and in the South Pacific as 'a safe heaven for our departing soul.' Thousands of people have signed the petition. Today the company owner of the close hotel wants to denature the site, destroy the hill, and build 40 villas of luxury on this site. Population of Tahiti asks for a harmonious compromise between their spiritual values and the addition of modern luxurious structures, sign of modernism, just not at that location.

According to Maohi traditions, (http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/laissons_les_mes_senvoler_en_paix_de_tataa), the 'varua or soul', after removing itself from its earthly shells called tino, vaite, and mauri, travels a long way before reaching Rohutu, Hawaïki, or Te Pö. For the inhabitants of the island of Tahiti, this path has some stopping-places in the mataeinaa (district) itself, then the varua goes to 'Tataa' promontory, situated at the most north-western headland of Tahiti.

'There, the 'varua' meditates over its past incarnation and understands its deeds. It then concentrates to understand and see, between the various paths, the most appropriate one to reach its spiritual abode. It is therefore not surprising that our ancestors had given the name 'Tataa' to this holy place, the word taa having two meanings, to separate ,to remove itself and to understand' according to Rohutu's beliefs Maohi traditions.

The atmosphere of quietness, peace and serenity which has always prevailed there, is necessary for the intense concentration of the varua and suits the function of the site; this atmosphere has to be preserved.

In the Society islands, these north-westernmost points are today shortened as 'Terei'a', like for example the one in Fitii (Huahine). Respected by the local inhabitants, all these places have, until today, kept their natural state' said the president of Rohutu.

The absence of human-built lithic structures such as marae or paepae expresses the will to reserve these places for the exclusive use of Te Pô-bound varuas.

This asserts or confirms the extreme sacredness of the site (http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/laissons_les_mes_senvoler_en_paix_de_tataa), so sacred that man does not dare put his mark. These places do not actually belong to ' Te Ao '(the visible, material world) but they belong to 'Te Pö' (the invisible, spiritual world).Tataa promontory should therefore remain free of any man-built structure.
